Our garage had been badly neglected by a few previous owners, and was in such a state that our only affordable option was to tear it down. (We were unable to park in it.) I looked for demolition contractors online, and Garrison was the only one who took the time to call me back! Robin went to our home while we were at work, but was able to give us an estimate based on what he saw. We felt his quote of $1,700 was very fair--especially since we had heard all kinds of crazy "guesses" from other people we talked to who are not in the demo business! We agreed to have him do the work, but we had lots to do before he could get started. We live under the jurisdiction of an Area Commission, and had to either get their approval before proceeding, or wait 60 days from the filing of the permit application in order to tear it down. We opted for the commission route to speed things up, and Robin was very patient while we waited for meeting dates to come and go. Robin did a lot for us without seeing a dime: he pulled our permit (which was rolled into our overall cost, bringing the grand total to $1,800), gave me some information about the role of Area Commissions, waited patiently as we learned we had to make not one, but two presentations to the same commission, dropped off our posted notice and written notices for neighbors, etc. All the while, we kept in touch via phone and email; he was the first person I called when we got the approval of our commission. When the day finally arrived, Robin and his crew showed up and got right to work. Once they had positioned their equipment, it took only minutes for the building to fall. The entire job--cleanup included--took only several hours. I was *very* impressed when, after the work was nearly done, he came to the door to talk to me about the final inspection and gave me a tour of the pad where the garage used to sit; he explained that the footer under the west wall had been uprooted when that wall came down, causing some cracking, and talked to me about what the city's inspector would look for. Robin refused to accept payment in full that day, since we still had one more hurdle to clear with the inspection. I thought that was a good indication of what kind of business he runs and what kind of person he is, and it just confirmed that we had hired the right person for the job. He called me the day that he heard the inspector had approved the site, and we arranged for me to mail the remainder of the payment. We're very glad that Robin returned our request for a quote, and we would happily recommend his company to anyone who needs this sort of work done.
